This is a detail of the "Abt" system driving gear on one of the locos used on the Queenstown to Strahan railway.
The double spur wheel in the centre of the picture engaged in a rack rail in the centre of the track to get the
train up the steep grades. This line - and locos like this - have since been rebuilt as the "Wilderness Railway".
