Both places are about a half-hour drive south of Canberra. Lanyon homestead is the centre of a former extensive property on the Murrumbidgee River, dating from the 1850s. The homestead area is now owned by a "Historic Houses of Canberra" (I hope I've got that right.) There was a "Woolfest" on when we came by, with demonstrations of spinning and traditional crafts, a fashion show featuring wool, and kid's games from the 19th century. The man at the gate tried hard to give everybody a discount.
Cuppacumbalong is a bit further south, in the village of Tharwa. Its original homestead has been replaced, and it didn't have any fest, but they serve good food, and one of us spent some money in the gallery.
