Laurie Island

Orcadas is the Argentinian research station on Laurie Island. The island is steep bare rock except for this low bleak windswept isthmus (sometimes wave-swept too, we were told). We were welcomed by cheerful Argentinians who guided us on a tour around the base (in English), gave us hot coffee and chocolates, and sold us postcards. We didn't mention the Falkland Islands.
