Thanks to everyone who commented on yesterdays volcanic rock & lichen. I live on the bottom side of what was once formed as the result of a volcanic eruption estimated at roughly 22 million years ago.
Thanks to Herb for the link which is indeed a common sight to us. Herb visited & stayed on one of the basalt mountains early last year for a few days & no doubt saw this sort of thing.

I am still too tied up with work to catch up with everyone, plus I've managed to pick up a head & chest infection, no doubt passed on by one of the many many children I've dealt with in the last few weeks. Still, it's winter and it happens.
