After a number of trips to Australia, I eventually learned that Vegemite isn't that bad if you use the right amount with butter on toast.
However, the first time I ever had it, I spread it on toast REALLY heavy. Way too heavy!!! What a surprise (understatement) that was for this American girl. I was at a VIP event at the Syndey Opera House at the time & had to keep my decorum. So, I politely chewed and swallowed and didn't make any faces. But... well, that was difficult. However, every trip "Down Under" after that, I again and again tried Vegemite at least once until I finally discovered the right balance. It's not bad.
But no, I don't have it in my pantry here at home. And yes, I'd eat it again while in Australia.
I don't think I ever tried it while living in Canberra, probably because my husband hated it (so I figured I probably would too). Still, great that it's celebrating its 100th birthday!
