The Choir & the Organ

Above where the choir sits

The organ dates back to the 1830’s

The 5,400 pipes of York Minster's Grand Organ were dismantled, cleaned and repaired…some had remained silent since 1903
This work began in 2018.
Between November 2020 and February 2021 experts worked to ‘voice’ the organ, a process which involves making sure all 5,000 pipes play the correct note, pitch and volume.
