Roo Bar

The Stock & Station agent lives in town & works out of an office. You can pick his car by the amount of red dust and dried bugs on the body :)
However he drives many hundreds of kilometres to station properties and
Roo Bars on his vehicle are a vital asset to protect him & his car from wreckage. Kangaroos, some out there can stand taller than a man & weigh a heck of a lot more.
This is the new style roo bar, necessary once airbags were introduced. They have censors inbuilt to make deployment possible.

Shot this in central city of Rockhampton...there were 3 of them, identically dusty & bug encrusted :)

Looks rather strong. Strong enough to kick away elephants...And who protects the roos?

roo bars.. guess there is no need for those here, for *that* reason! looks hard to clean around all that but guess it's necessary, which takes my imagination to wondering what it would be like to visit there.. can't imagine seeing kangaroos let alone worrying about them damaging the car!

Great shot. We could do with something like this for all these pesky pedestrians.

Wow, this is a neat story. I like the idea!

looks impressive these bull bars... Hopefully they drive carefully and don't kill the kangaroos with this bar!

Looks like a heavy protection. Interesting to read. A life I'll never live.

Very interesting. The new roo bar looks very neat.

Great idea - we should have them for the herds of deer that populate Upstate New York. Although, they are so stupid, they often run into the sides and backs of cars...

Certainly needed! We hit one a couple of Q trips ago, it made a mess of our car
and gave us a big fright!

Neat description of a part of local life that we don't experience. Nice shot and story

It's good to see the roo bar has a convenient ledge for the drinks!

Roo Bars, now there's something new. Can't use them here, but maybe something lower like Skunk Bars.
Cindi Smith26-Aug-2009 00:31
Roo bars! Wow!!!
sue anne26-Aug-2009 00:19
Wow that is some asset, we could use them here for deer that cross the road at the wrong time. Nice find !
J. Scott Coile25-Aug-2009 22:34
We need them for Deer 'round here.
Dave Perez25-Aug-2009 21:32
You might want to check behind the Roo Bars for pieces of Bicycle parts or bits of clothing. Nice find!

Nice crop, well guarded ..:)
Linda Willets25-Aug-2009 21:25
Looks very sturdy for sure.
Guest 25-Aug-2009 21:12
It woudn't be good for us, cause the bulk of a moose is higher than the hood, thats why we put fences along some roads.
Phillip Normanton25-Aug-2009 21:04
Now that's butch! Something tells me the airbags aren't for the poor kangaroos!? And what about pedestrians??? All looks a bit dodgy to me...
