This is not necessarily scan vs. digital, as it is for my own information. I'm trying to see what gives the best resolution
when printed and, as of now, I have no answers. I'll be adding images from a Nikon D70s.
Update - October 26, 2006. I just returned from a quick trip to the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania where I used both a Nikon D70s and an F100. I thought it would be interesting to compare the images from the film and digital camera. The D70s images were shot in RAW; the F100 utilized Kodak 400UC print film. The best comparison is with Noritsu prints which I've already done. What you see here are the D70s RAW images converted and resized for web use. The F100 images were scanned using a Nikon Coolscan V, resized for the web. Both sets of images were processed using Photoshop CS2, mainly uusing levels and curves. The final step was converting to sRGB color space.
My own non-professional observation is that the full resolution scans and 8 x 12 prints from the F100 contain more detail than the converted RAW files of the D70s. However, the whites seem whiter, with the D70s - look at the Bear Creek images.
