I just received the Nikon 55-200vr for use with my D80 - this is to be a travel lens. I was concerned about sharpness and resoluton so I did some quick tests using my neighbor's political sign as a target. I compared the 55-200vr shooting at f 5.6 or 6.3 to the 85 mm f 1.8, 135 mm f 2.8 ais, and 200 mm f4 ais primes. I used comparable focal lengths with the 55-200 mm vr. and the same for aperture with the primes. All images were shot in RAW, ACR was used for conversion, levels in Photoshop, and light smart sharpening at 50% with .5 radius. The images were saved as .jpegs and are posted here at 100% pixels.
