On last weekends paddle - Peter and I were awarded with an amazing display by two male Loons in the presence of a young female.
While neither Male got up to the spectacular breasting - they tried their best - it was a very hot and humid day.
Sorry I have included so many shots normally I would just select a few. Many look the same but that is the key they are not. It is quite amazing watching them dip and weave and gurgle. The calling was truly haunting being that close which by the way was also quite surprising that they did not seem to mind us being that close but always kept us at a distance. The display basically circled changing the lighting and clarity considerably.
This was one time I actually wished I had a cam!! or even a recorder of some sort. What a song they did sing. As well the sun reflecting on their feathers was caught a few times brilliant green reflections -not just in the lens - it was quite visible by the naked eye.
For a better idea set the slideshow to 1 second and you can see them almost dance in several sequences.
I have never been so lucky as to be witness to a Loon Mating Dance, I am so glad that I can share it with you all.
