Onbashira is a festival held every 6 years near Lake Suwa, which is near Nagano. The idea is to drag large "honored pillars" from the mountains into town, to the two shrines, and then erect the pillars to symbolically renew the shrines. This is one of the shrines which is a final destination for 4 out of 8 of those pillars.
