Sigma 600mm f8 on a Canon 1D mk1 = 780mm crikey!

Picked up this lens for a laugh really, the shop that sold it warned me that it would be terrible, it was cheap!
Mounted on my favourite 1D original dinosaur, right sort of era :0) The lens is fixed aperture manual focus what fun lol
Bright conditions to start mid afternoon, last couple in the evening light had gone.
Haven't pp except Lightroom export file size reduction.
Mounted on a tripod, remote release, focus was hit and miss in the hot sunlight but better as everything cooled, DOF is very thin, but when in focus it is absolutely fine!!
I have tried it with and without the slot in filters, maybe slightly sharper without. I have not sharpened these RAW shots!!!!
There is a large knob on the side 'lock and release' does anyone know what this does??
