The trail follows these abandoned tracks on the way from Pittsburgh to Cumberland. The section from Pittsburgh to Connellsville used to be owned by the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad. From Connellsville onwards it was owned by the Western Maryland Railroad.
