This brings back fond memories of a more relaxed time. Great shot Karen. Looks like a 1952 Kenmore model. gmv

Hi Karen,
Thank you for sharing this amazing picture and story! \/

There is so much to see in this photo--the bare light bulb and the exposed electrical wiring with the insulator that keeps it from burning down the house; the concrete block step; the dog bowl on the ground; the small piece of gutter used to collect the water from the roof to guide it to the rain barrel. I hope whoever lives here is happy--sometimes people with so little are the happiest.

There are a lot of people who never saw this type of washing machine or a rain barrel, but I have. It's just a shame that Iraq is getting all the new washers and bottled water these days.

Strong image!! v

When I was a child, my ma used to drag us in from the mud in the spring and stand us up in the washing machine and give us a bath (no, it wasn't running) before she changed the wash water. Then she'd take us outside and rinse us in the rain barrel. Those were simpler times... love the green on the trailer!

"there were two men standing on the porch. I waved. ;) Hey, they'll never hunt me down where I live."
LOL! The size 12 tennis shoes on the porch are a dead giveaway! Karen, yet another outstanding bit of photojournalism and commentary about your part of the country. You have a talent for narrative that brings additional life and meaning to your photos. I'm still waiting to see a book or tv special from you. Vote
Best to you,
Dick:)
