Though I don't get to stop by too often, there's always a lot
to think about in your postings Karen.
You certainly don't pull any punches.
You should be doing a newspaper column I think.

You're great at this, and I'd never have know that phone is a phony unless I read your interesting notes. v.

you write and shoot wonderful stories

Karen, I recently ran across this quote "Refusing to look back, and joyful with infinite gratitude, never fear to rise to meet the dawn praising
blessing
and singing
Christ your Lord"
I love you and your photos. You are on my desktop. Cynthia Fye(Seattle)

Karen, what a wonderful commentary and how true it is about the state of things in southern WV. The people there are fighters... most of them come from hard, gritty, stubborn ancestors. And you're a fighter too... keep going, girl. It's not the stuff we have that matters. The Good Book says, "...for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content." (And I LOVE your photo...he seems genuinely happy!)

Fun photo an powerful commentary, but don you go
gettin the blues on us now, Honey.

"I know your clothes are torn and ragged
And your hair is turning grey
Lift your head and smile at trouble
You'll find happiness some day"

Ah love that song - Keep smilin!

A very good portrait and a commentary that documents and brings alive people's stories and hardships and their ability to smile in spite of the hardships. Keep telling these stories, they need to be told.

Very nice photo Karen, very nice but the commentary is extraordinary.

It's interesting at the many contradictions in our state, Karen. I live in poverty-strickened central WV and just got back from a trip to Martinsburg, where things are absolutely booming. But one thing I did notice is the contradiction of the haves and have-not's. It's everywhere. I see it in my family, my friends, my church family - everywhere. But people will always be more important than things.

Very poignant and honest.
You have a tremendous amount of empathy and insight Karen.

Fun and friendly shot, despite his situation.

I like the portrait and the commentary Karen :o)

Your photographic and written testimony is extremely valuable. In this wealthy crowd found on PBase, your work takes another dimension!

You have a great story telling ability. This is a very good portrait, showing this man has a good sense of humour.

Could be worse Karen...you could be born Paris Hilton !! As for the rest I think Lori has it covered !!

So, you are actually one of only a few that have ever walked the earth and can look back and say they have made progress. Always, the speed of everyone else's progress always seems faster, somehow. But as is often said, it is the journey, not the destination that is important. And we all travel through life as best we can. Thank you for sharing your images and your insights, Karen.

Hi Karen, nice shot of Tom. He seems in good humor :-). I think you might want to consider giving yourself a lot more credit than you do. You have a lot of insight and the ability to express it. Great protrait and commentary!

Great candid and commentary about our society today.
Guest 26-Jun-2007 19:18
great photo and commentary, people have more than they know what to do with these days and the world is evolving more and more faster and fast, lands once thought never to be developed are now rapidly developing as more people have money to buy a second home in the mountains and beaches.
