Everyone Has A Cross to Bear

West Virginia

Some people literally.

When I saw this fella walking down Stafford Drive, one of the main roads through Princeton, I did a U turn and went back to take his photo.

His name is Bobby Jones and he walks all over like this through several counties, testifying.

And those are real logs. That's got to be heavy.

Does Mickey D's throw him a bone for the ad? :^)

Well done to you for going back, sort of thrown by his MD jacket, great story

It amazes me how you see these folks over there. I've never seen anything like him here in England, and that's even less likely in a small town.

I saw one of these guys trudging along a road in Arizona last week. Now I wish I'd taken his photo so we could have a matched set. The one I saw was not as clean cut as this one.

Terrific capture for you PaD!

Terrific shot Karen-- & wonderful social commentary. As others noted the expression of faith & the commercialism of McDonald's represented by the jacket is interesting. (Is McDonald's a sponsor perhaps?) Actually McDonald's has never betrayed my faith in them... On a more serious note it's a great picture of an obviously sincere young man--it's great to see folks taking their faith seriously & willing to make the effort. My hat's off to him.

Committment, I see the big M helps.

"...he walks all over like this through several counties..."
He certainly doesn't seem to be afraid to make a committment.

You always have the best stories to go with your images, I really enjoy coming by your gallery. Nice lighting on this one too.

An interesting shot.

Fast food and faith - I could not formulate it any better than G. & M. That's something you probably could see nowhere else than in the States. Great shot.

Great human interest shot.

great shot of this guy...but why does the preacher have to where a red Nascar jacket with the Golden Arches on it? He looks very serious.

Uhm, Duncan and I were writing a comment exactly at the same time, it seems, and we perceived the same detail…

Another extraordinary page of daily life, Karen.
Your pictures show us a certain American reality by details and they have a much more effective impact than many banal articles.
What amazes me here, more than the weight of the logs or his choice of faith and his way to express it, is the fact he wears a McDonald’s coat, if I see well…
Oh, this is one of the faces America, fast food and faith.
Great picture indeed

Yes, he does have conviction and all that but I do find it sort of ironic, I don't intend to offend, that he is wearing a McDonalds coat and carrying the cross. His statement could be read in many ways with that coat on.
