The Annual Inspection

West Virginia

The misspelled sign got me to go here. It was finally corrected. Just when I had decided it was a play on words, as in "Tires on Sale."

I asked the owner. No, he replied, we're mechanics. We're just illterate. LMAO. They sure weren't dumb and both had a great sense of humor.

He also told me only a couple people picked up on the misspelling. And that he had considered changing it to "We Sail Tires," which would be a play on words as in throwing tires out the door.

I showed the owner the sign photo on his computer. He got everyone working there to look at it. I'm not sure if he was pleased or not. :) He did look outside to make sure he had cut the grass in front of it.

And he let me take some photos. Not entirely willingly. He's not posing here. This is how he was sitting as he reluctantly let me point the camera at him. He finally told me to go take some photos of Jamie.

hmmmmm the boss looks like he's trying to figure out what's happening..... I guess it's not everyday that a woman walks in taking picture of him and his place. :-)

Love it! When we were in Kentucky a few years ago a liquor store/ bar had the sign hanging up, "Ain't No Beer Drank This Side".

We sell tyres over here lol. Nice candid portrait with that element of surprise.

This sure beats the bikini shots that have been all over the place lately. I'm with Mary.

Tell this big burly guy that we need honest mechanics down here in Florida as well and he’s welcome to move down here. I’ve lived in Florida since 1977 and have only found one, … count them ONE, … honest mechanic. I refer everyone I know to the guy. This fella would do well down here. Folks are tired of being ripped off.
BTW, … I vote for “Sail” tires as well. That makes it official. He needs to change the sign.

A very nice portrait, and a great story to go along with it.

In some parts of Louisiana selling tires is pronounced "sailing tires"--that is in northwest Louisiana. He loved you taking his picture--see his hands on top of his head so he could show his biceps.

A great portrait, even if he's not quite happy. He has a wary look that gives this an interesting bit of tension -- glad you asked, though; he's an excellent subject. Works well in the B&W. And I do like the 'We Sail Tires'...even if most people don't pick up on it.

I love the story, I love the pictures, mostly the bearded mechanic's one and I'm in favour of "Sailing tires" of course, very surrealistically evocative. I imagine a fleet of tired tiles sailing away in the sunset...;^))
