East of Eden

West Virginia

Mamiya RB67 with Polaback. Fujifilm FP3000B.

Submitted for the challenge list entry, "A movie that made you cry."

This movie was sad but I actually didn't cry when I watched it. I can't think of a movie that made me cry. I can think of lots of movies that inspired me or scared me or otherwise effected me so I'm good for next month's challenge.:)

It's also a stretch since it has more to do with the title than the actual film. And I'm not thrilled with the way it turned out either. But it's film so you get one shot unless you really have a lot of disposable income. :)

Other worlds can be seen here.

Mamiya RB67 ,Mamiya Sekor 50mm f4.5
1/30s f/16.0 iso3000 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

I like this, beautiful reflections and shadows on this curved glass. Read the book years ago and must re-read it sometime.

Creative and wonderful. Yes, a movie to make one cry and cry!

Superb shot Karen! Never saw the movie, but this crystal apple certainly is ideal for the title! :)

That Fujifilm B&W is EXCELLENT!

I like your comment about only getting one shot with film. I justify the cost of higher-end dSLR bodies by telling myself that they're still a better deal than buying film & processing but not really taking into account that with film, photographers were more conservative with their number of shots. ;)
Great B/W for the day's theme!

Promising and works great with the B&W tones, melodramatic! V.

East of Eden is a tear jerker and that blown glass is like a big tear.

I didn't see the movie, but I thought the book was outstanding. Your image presents us with intriguing shapes and forms that stimulate the imagination. V

You comments above make me smile. I remember taking photos (35mm) on our trips around NZ. And I always had someone in them because I had to pay for each photo "so I had better have a family member in each scene!!"...

This is a beautiful piece of glass that has darkness but also light. Very nicely presented with window light behind and rich tones. V.

A good association between title and subject...it was a good movie too

When you "take a stretch," Karen, I've learned to expect something striking and unusual. I love your unique interpretation of things and the way you create the images that you do!

A beautiful still life Karen.
I don't know the movie at all.

I love this shot! It is beautiful, I think. I haven't watched East of Eden for a long time, but I remember it as being very sad, as you say. V
