About the Lightship
The lightship weighs approximately 2,883 kilograms stands almost 17 metres
tall by 14 metres wide and cruises at an average speed of 76 km/h. It features
a state-of-the-art gyro stabilized camera for television and video photography.
Fifteen crew members keep it in the air and help to bring it back down to earth.
Since there are only 11 airships operating in North America, there are more
astronauts than lightship pilots. With a passenger capacity of up to seven people,
the Bell lightship will provide over 1,500 people with a once-in-a-lifetime aerial
view of their community.
