These pictures were made using a delay photogate to trip the flash and make the exposure. The shots were set up in light conditions, the light turned off, the shutter opened, and the drop was released. The flash was triggered by the photogate after a set time. The flash duration was about 1/50,000 second, fast enough to stop the motion of the drops. The subjects are various combinations of colored dyes dropped from about 18 inches into various media. It was raining outside and I was bored.
