I'm not sure which one i prefer.
I've had a similar thing happen in my garden, but with caterpillars eating every flower and leaf off my borage.
A similar thing happened a few years ago. I think it's an imbalance in nature due to the extremes of weather (eg hot summers) we've had. It hasn't happened again till now. I just let them get on with it. No permanent damage was done.
