I was getting some things from the storage space in my loft bedroom today when I came across this.
It was done for my final show at college, part of a series on the Celtic fire festivals.
This one is Samhain or Halloween.
The Horned image is the Celtic god of nature, the male personification of energies of growth.
He is the dying and ressurecting vegetation god who sacrifices his life to ensure the harvest will be bountiful.
Behind him is a Sheelagh Na Gig, found on many European churches; a symbol of the devouring female aspect of death,
the Mother who takes all back into her at the end of life, or the end of summer, but who gives birth once more in due course, and from whom fresh life issues forth in spring.
My ex husband was the model for the horned god.
it seems appropriate and somewhat cathartic to display this now as part of moving on.
