Hi David - maybe it's the Gulf Stream? I always thought it was because it took a long time to cool down . . . . . and to warm up!

Well I'm not sure WHERE you're referring to that the surfing water is warmest in Oct/Nov, but I can assure you that's certainly NOT true in Maine, where this was taken! In fact, the ocean temperature in the winter months is often barely above freezing; it's only the salt content that keeps the coastal waters from freezing over altogether. -- DF

It's actually great surfing at this time of year - the water is at it's warmest in October/November, so it's not usually too cold - It's early May when the sun's shining that it's really nasty!
