I didn't realize it was a solitary bee. We don't have such things around here. Still, there's no telling whether there's another solitary bee on the next flower, so I find it's degree of soloness in question. - Warren

Great shot, your field of focus is great. You really use the Sigma to a great advantage.

thanks for nice comments:
Warren - my bee natural history is rudimentary (but not non-existant) This type of bee is a solitary beast, living alone in a little hole in the ground - so I guess it qualifies at that level - it is also solo, as is the flower - I think it's okay.
As for the depth of field - it does help, but not that much - you'll notice that the shot is taken at an angle so that the front of the bee is on the same plane as the front of the flowers - I got an awful lot where one or the other was out of focus. Still, it's uncommon to have anyone say that the DOF on the D2x is an advantage - most are saying exactly the opposite.
kind regards jono

Did I miss something Warren? It's a solitary bee isn't it?
Flick.

A nice bee, indeed. The D2X provides more depth of field than the Kodak cameras because of the smaller sensor. I usually have to use f/16 or smaller with the 14n to get enough DoF for insects, which makes flash mandatory.

But what does this photo have to do with the theme? - Warren

LOL - thank you - you can't imagine how many out of focus images I had to take to get this - damn things keep moving!
