1st - Two Sides of a Songbird by Charles Gervais

studio shot (London, UK)

This is a promo image shot for a friend who (hopefully!) is embarking on a successful singing career (she sings both opera and pop, and I wanted an image that showed both sides at the same time). Because of the nature of the composite, the poor girl had to keep her hand in exactly the same place on the mirror for almost an hour! Shot with a (loaned) D2X.

Sorry about the border and (tiny) copyright, I produced this jpeg as an emailed example of a full-sized ©'d version. I'll resubmit a cleaner version once I get my main machine set up again (it's languishing in a box in the basement of the house I into which I just moved!).

Thanks for the kind words on this one everybody. We went through a lot of poses to get these two , and I think I was lucky that I actually got a pair that worked well together :-)

Albert: she did look like this at 14 (her poor parents!) but luckily for me, she waited until she was 16 until she came into the studio (with parents as chaperones, I should add!). Paul gets the prize for guessing the right age :-)

Warren, thanks for setting my mind at ease re: border and copyright. I want to tone down the border a bit (to make it less obtrusive, but still least give the black image on a black background a defined area) and to remove the copyright (a little crass for me to do this in this forum).

The atmosphere here has only changed for the better, it's good to be back visiting. Love what you've done with the place! (I'm particularly taken with the "Contrasts" images). Charles

Thanks Flick! I think that she's really pleased with it (though it took some doing to convince her to pose in three different outfits over such a long period). Any guesses as to her age? (Flick can't guess, I already told her). Charles

Charles, I'm so glad you included this image, which I thought was brilliant first time i saw it. It looks even better reproduced here. Clever idea and superb Photoshopping. I hope she's pleased with it...
Flick.
