LOL, I'm a past expert at cheating. I used to paint in whole stones, blades of grass etc when I was doing a lot of film printing and the exposure range was too much for the camera.

Yes the word specular assumes such. I guess what I mean is those that can be tamed with a number of extreme variations in exposures. But I get your point and painting in the specular highlights is the sensible answer. - Paul

Paul, as i understood it, specular highlights have no detail because the camera didn't record any, and so the only way to get detail in is to cheat - I paint it in usually.

Thanks Paul, I've started trying some bracketing and blending on some daylight shots, but haven't tried with any night exposures yet. I'll give it a try..- Marc
