Male and female by Pepe Abascal

These are two of my children, Marta and Juan (the little one, Pepe, is on my back, he is the king), and even being so young they show the huge difference between men and women. I think we are educating them in the same way but look at their manners! My children are the best thing in my life... (here comes my wife): of course, darling, you are also the best thing in my life! I must be careful with what I say you know.

Hi Kim, nice reply. No, I didn´t mean masochist but MACHISTA which comes from MACHO and it is reffered to societies where masculinity is on top. So it was us who invented high heels... poor women, but sure look good. I find that nowadays female models in fashion tend to show tons of anger, and they look as if they don´t like the soup... I want more natural poses in my photos. Yesterday I got an assignement and was told to shoot the model (a women) as if she is forgiving me, unreachable. To be honest I find that very fetishist and Helmut Newton like, but it is not my style (though I think women reign). As you can see I also go throuhg those days every month.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like a raving lunatic! (Must be that time of month.) I wanted to add, that I think the term is not "masochistic" society, but "masculinist" as compared to "feminist". Maybe that's not what you meant. --Kim

Hi Pepe, I think I said something like, "this reminds me of the picture Andrea Buso first posted, 'Rage'." Now that I think about it, it isn't that girls don't express this emotion, as you said your daughter does, and we know that all women--especially those with PMS--do. But they don't usually get photographed with that expression!!! Media really is responsible for repeating certain stereotypes often. In fact, "glamor" as a whole is a media creation...and an industry dominated by males. A male designed the first bra, first corset, and first set of high-heeled shoes for women. Let's face it, he designed these to please himself, not the woman. What's really ironic to me, is that male transfestites are mocking not women, but the glamorous components some other male designed. No transfestite has ever made himself look "dumpy" or "plain Jane"! Your children illustrate the point, that until hormones take over, males and females are gender nuetral. But there will be a point when hormones dominate, and society then dominates and imposes stereotypes. Of course, then you have to take into account the differences between the different societies cultural practices and accepted behaviors. Seemingly, Italian and French peoples are known for being more emotionally "expressive" than white-anglo-saxon-protestants (WASPs). The important thing is that you love your kids and they know they're loved! End of rant. ;-) --Kim

Sorry I deleted two messages, one from Flick and the other from Kim. I wanted to delete one of mine to fix a spelling fault and silly of me I messed it all up. Please accept my apologies, I am ashamed. Kim was talking about how girls are not supposed to show emotions such as rage... in a maschist enviroment I think. Any way, could you write again what you did?

No Kim, she is 6 and he is 3. He is almost as tall as her (she has got my gens and he has got my wife´s, who is very tall). The photo is the result of two stiched together, I could not get them to pose at the same time, so sizes are altered to emphasize the expressions. About rage: at home is my wife who shows that emotion, I am more easy going (maybe more affraid of conflict). My daughter shows it all the time, Juan is much more tender, and he is not showing rage in this image, rather he is about to jump on me (remember I said Pepe is on my back), he is jealous.
