This is so much easier in Photoshop than in a darkroom.

This is a beautiful image but it makes me sad. It has a poignancy anyway, but more so for me at the moment: our cats injured a fledgling thrush yesterday, which I had to take to the vet to be destroyed. The reason this is particularly sad is that we've had a dearth of birds in recent years because the council has insisted on spraying weeds and plants on the pavements of our residential streets. They stopped doing it two years ago, and the bird population has increased as a result. Even so, song thrushes are now rare. Your image reminds me of how "small" and powerless most wildlife is when faced with the mass destruction we, as a species, are managing to inflict on the planet.

The challenge inspired it. The light on the hands was one flash with a 7 inch grid. For the bird there were two such flashes, a white reflector and a finger--literally a finger to shade the bird's chest. In Photoshop I resized and layered the images, masked off the wrists, and converted to grayscale with the channel mixer. - Warren

Really well done. How'd you light this, or was the lighting worked in PS. Very inspiring. - Paul

MMMmmmmm, very tidy. I like, I like. It is dark on my monitor, but I suspect that was your aim? Excellent mood for the still life. I like this one a lot better than your plate setting. What inspired this version???- Paul
