Hi- I came across your galleries while perusing Pbase for images taken with the 24-70 f2.8. Beautiful images you have. I've had the good fortune to acquire several L series lenses which I'm very impressed with. I'm using them on a 1.6x for now until I eventually change bodies. Thanks for sharing your excellent work, especially the 24-70 and 16-35 galleries.

Mark,
I saw your gallery of Voigtlander 12mm with wonderful pictures.
I try this lens on M8 with Leica UV/IR but it seem like the filter are a bit in the frame, so which filter you using, thank you for your info.

Hi C.A.

Thank you for your kind comments in my guest book on PBase.

I am not too surprised to hear that you are disappointed with your EF 35-105/3.5-4.5 with a modern digital camera. I was rather enthusiastic about this "sleeper" lens when I was using it with the original 1D (1.3 crop) camera in 2003-2004. The 1D was a 4mp camera and was rather forgiving with almost all EF lenses due to its low pixel density. After moving to full frame and higher pixel densities I used the 35-105 less and less. I still don't think I would be too harsh with the 35-105. As I recall, it performed rather well at f/8 or f/11 and as long as one remembered to keep the shutter speeds high when using the long end of the zoom. It remains a very inexpensive lens on the used market, although with EF-S lenses now more commonplace there are quite a few more choices available today.

Hope this helps,
Mark

Hi Mark,

As others have stated you have have an amazing range of work on your site. I also very much appreciate your demonstration of a number of classic lenses. I have a few of the lenses you site and am pleased to see others enjoy them as well. Yet I am curious that you got good results from the EF 35-105 3.5-4.5: I loved this lens on film but have not had good results on digital. Is there anything special you are doing in post processing?

Finally, your chinook shots are breathtaking!

Very nice collection, Mark. Simply great! Greetings to Canada ;)

To lifetimetributes:

Yes, the 21/2.8 I use is the non-aspheric version. I believe that the criticism of the non-aspheric version of this lens comes from full frame film users who say that the corners are weak. I have absolutely no complaints about the corners when I use it with my M8. I would also say the lens has gentle contrast compared with the newer aspheric wides that Leica produces. The non-aspheric tends to sell for about 1/2 the price of a used aspheric version of the lens. I'd give it two thumbs up.

Mark

Mark, love your Leica gallery! Is your 21mm F2.8 the non-aspheric model? I'm thinking of buying one, but so many people have criticized this lens.

Jeanette,

Thank you for your interest regarding my images of Calgary on PBase and thank you for asking for permission to use my copyrighted images. Unfortunately, the community of Mount Pleasant already uses one of my images on its website without acknowledgement or my permission (flash title image of Confederation park on MPCA website vs. bottom portion of "Fall in the Park" http://www.pbase.com/kodachrome/image/50375768/large ). Until this is corrected, I cannot consider your request for use of images on the cover of the MPCA newsletter.

There are two kinds of photographers: those who compose pictures and those who take them. The former work in studios. For the latter, the studio is the world.... For them, the ordinary doesn't exist: every thing in life is a source of nourishment. -Ernst Haas

You have an excellent eye. By the way, the pictures with M8 seem to be an upgrade of what you were with IDsII...

Mark,
In my extensive list of favorites artists you are the top dog. No other gallery leaves a lasting impression more than yours. Composition and color are first. The subject comes second. Your technique is so perfectly dialed in.
I am truly inspired by your work and hope to come close to your level of expertise in the years to follow. Thanks for sharing a part of your life with us.
oh, what a great name too, my name is Mark also.

Thank you for visiting my galleries. That shot was one of my first on PBase PaD and I lucked out. My knowledge of a digital camera is quite limited. I used a 35mm. before and this is so different.

Thank you, Vera. Actually I was born & raised in the photographer's paradise called Vancouver (I really enjoyed the familiar scenes in your Vancouver gallery) - I now call Calgary home, but I do travel to the Rockies frequently ... so we are "neighbours" :)
Guest 03-Jul-2003 20:03
Hi Mark, your galleries are brilliant! I especially love the "pattern" gallery. Are you an Albertan (or you were just a tourist in Banff)? I live in Vancouver, B.C., so we may be 'neighbours'. :-) Anyway, I will check back here later for more of your great photos! cheers, Vera :-)
