This monastery is from 18. May 1147. Before that it was already a church out there. The name Hovedøya is from old Norwegian language and may be translated with Hill Island. The island was if we go far far back in time a volcano and even today the island has a form that reminds of a volcano. The monastery was in 1532 burned down and demolished. The rocks that once was a monastery were used to build Akershus Fort that I have photos from another place among my galleries on this site.
You may think that my editing here is a little bit to extreme because I have tried to get out the colours from the rocks and/or just make some manipulations that's more just pictures than only photos. So as the word says; take it or leave it - like it or not because even I am not satisfied with all of them. Watch them in Original size. Use F11 on your board if necessary.
