We recently purchased a darling whippet. Our Bella is only 12 weeks old and we are working on potty training and crate training.....both of which are proving to be very challenging. But the more immediate concern for us is the fact that our Bella eats dirt and rocks. When we take her outside to potty or play, she immediately begins her search for rocks. She has frequently swallowed them before we can even get them out of her mouth. We are worried that this can't be good for her and don't know what to do. The dirt isn't good, but not nearly as worrysome as the rocks - some of which are pretty good sized. (She even roots around in the grass until she pulls some up with roots and "dirt".)
Do you have any ideas.........what can be causing this? have you ever heard of such a thing? what would you recommend? We have only had her for four days and the problem seems to be increasing. We offer her food, and water all day; we have provided a number of chew toys, which she seems to enjoy. But when given the opportunity, she goes for the rocks. We can't walk her down the circular driveway at our home because it is all rocks and we can't get her to stop "eating them". She is so distracted with this that the potty routine is harder than it should be. She seems to forget she had to go as she searches for dirt and rocks. Then when we give up and bring her in she remembers and finds a corner to do her business in.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated! Suggestions on potty and crate training will be gladly accepted also.
