SHELTON, CT – On Saturday June 12, a teenager was reported missing at 3:15pm in the Housatonic River at the end of Hawthorne St. in Shelton. Divers had not found the body before dusk on Saturday, so the search resumed on Sunday morning. During the search divers responded from Derby, Trumbull, and Bridgeport. Diving conditions were extremely dangerous, and two divers were injured. One accident took place on Saturday, when a diver from Derby sustained ear damage, and one took place on Sunday when a diver from Trumbull suffered the bends while diving in the 40ft. deep cove. The Trumbull diver had to be taken to Norwalk Hospital’s hyperbaric chamber via Lifestar [See photos in the next gallery - Diving Accident (Shelton) 6/13/04]. The search for the missing teen ended on Sunday when Bridgeport P.D. divers found the body at 2:36pm.
