Well this is where it all began, the US Civil War basically started with a 34 battle over this Fort. You take a 35-40 minute boat ride to reach the fort and then get to spend an hour at the fort and then back is another 35-40 minutes, so block out 2.5 hours for this visit. You can grab the boat right next to the aquarium or next to Patriot's Point Park (Yorktown). The years have taken their toll on this fort like many civil war sites. The Parks Department has done a nice job cleaning it up and making what is left presentable. If you are a history buff this is aworth while visit, if not then weigh your time and money ($14)options. On a good clear day there could be some interesting photo ops with some decent long lenses.
