Falls Creek Falls State Park

This state park has 3 water falls, a cascade, a nature center and numerous trails, camping areas and a lake. It is fairly easy to get to and can be found on almost every TN map. It is easy to reach from NAshville, Chattanooga or Knoxville. From Atlanta take I-75 North to Chattanooga then take I-24 toward Nashville. Exit onto Hwy. 27 toward Dayton and finally take Hwy. 111 North. Look for Hwy 284 and the signs to the park which will be on you right.

Word of Warning, Hwy 111 has several speed traps especially in Van Buren County near Spencer, note the changes in speed limits and take notice.

When you enter the park the road signs are a little confusing. When you come to the sign for the Nature Center if you go right you will head toward the Cane Creek Falls and Cascade, if you bear left you will had toward the lake, information center and Falls Creek and Piney Creek Falls. There are maps available at the Infromation center, but they are a little confusing as well. The best view of Cane Creek Falls is NOT from the overlook at the Nature Center, I beleive there is a path and brideg behind the Nature Center that leads to the overlook across from the Falls which has a direct view of the Cane Creek Falls. Also from Falls Creek Falls there is a marked trail to the nature Center that will also take you past the better view of Cane Creek Falls. The Cascade at the nature center (just up stream of Cane Creek Falls) should be seen and you can get right down into it, as many people may be cooling off in the water. Piney Creek Falls is difficult to see and if you are short on time you can skip it without guilt. The view is acros the gorge and I needed my 100-400 lens to even get a decent shot and that was still obscured by some trees. Falls Creek Falls is a breath taking ampitheater liek falls and there is a trail that will take you down to the base of the falls. The some what tedious trial (numerous rocks and such to climb over and around) is worht the short 20 or so minute walk as you get a much better expierience from down below.

I rate Piney Creek Falls a 3 mostly due to porr visibility and distance, but difficulty is a 1. Cane Creek Falls and Falls Creek Falls I rate about a 6-7 with difficulty to the overlooks a 2. To get to the base of Falls Creek I give that a difficulty of about 5-6, not too strenuous, but the footing is treacherous in spots.

If you leave enough time it is well worth visiting Burgess Falls State Park about 20 minutes North of here and it has 3 very majestic falls well worth the visit.

Taken with 20D and combination of 24-70L, 100-400L and Tamron 17-35Di using B+W ND and CP filters. Processed with PS CS 2 and Bibble Pro. The Sun was not co-operating on most of these so had to do some heavy post to remove some flare/glare issues, thu they look a little washed out. For picture takers this park is best in early morning or late afternoon before the sun gets behind each of these falls.
