Fire in the night

But it was planned, and fully contained.
Burning of the Christmas trees, delayed several times because of high winds.
Experimented some with low ISO/slow shutter to get a different, blended look to the fire. Sometimes I was lucky and the firemen didn't move for 3 seconds (not often). But I admit I like the high ISO (on the 5D the noise is undetectable) and the static-y flames and embers.

Canon EOS 5D
0.80s f/2.8 at 70.0mm iso50 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Nice capture! Here on the coast, I heard they were dropping them into the ocean for bedding on the reefs or feeding them to the elephants at the zoo (who played with them first & then ate 'em up.. they like the sap, apparently)

wonderful shot karen. love the composition and the details of the flame are still well defined....i guess that was the iso50?! but i thought you were shooting at higher iso?? or is this what you were hoping to achieve with the fire definition.

You are being playful here, using ISO50 in the dark and hoping that the guy won't move. But it worked very well. Is it the moon in the back? Excellent result. Bravo. Vote.

Beautiful shot. I'm glad it was under control. The 5D is great for high iso. I love mine, too.

Nicely done Karen. I'm using the 5d as well now and really like the high ISO for night shots. I'd love to see some other versions of this scene. Drop me a note when you post them?
