Filing

this under "Can this image be saved". I am always so amazed at Mindy's really sharp images, and I've decided I need to get better at that, this obviously was a reject, and so used some actions on it. It's not even gonna make the 'I need an extension' file. In the round bin, or Peso, as so many end up.

Canon EOS 20D
1/80s f/5.0 at 67.0mm iso100 with Flash full exif

lovely!

I think it's a fine photograph.
Dennis Steinauer19-Apr-2006 03:56
So what's wrong with it? I think it looks great -- and the DOF is perfect for bringing out the bud amidst the leaves. Also, I'll bet you could get some really dynamite effects on this using some of the arty filters in PS, e.g., poster edges, cutout, paint daubs, etc.

just think how this would look framed...v

A quick quote from the renouned photographer Vincent Versace "The worst critic of your work is usually siting in the same chair as you are!" ;^) This is a very nice shot. -BJ

This is a wonderful image to me, Karen. Not every image needs to be tack-sharp--and this one is lovely as is. GMV

Perfect capture and composition. I find it hard to frame these buds but this really works as does the softness. GMV.
joanteno18-Apr-2006 10:20
Vote - I really like the soft focus with perfect lighting. The petals look delicate, but very sharp. Bottom line - a perfect save..

Came across this thumbnail while checking out something else. Opened it because it was so beautiful. I was very surprised that you did not like it. It is so soft and I love the textures and colors. Please do not dispose of this!

Before you chuck this, go back to the original and do a vertical crop on it and see what you think, especially taking out heavily on the right side! If you lightened it here, try leaving it a tad darker. You felt it enough to work it and post it, so give it another go.

Yep I'm with Gary...went ahhhh when I opened it. Wot'smore I'm voting for it lady, so there...~VOTE

Karen, this image is fantastic! Such a beautiful harmony of curves, with exquisite colors. If you consider this bad, I would hate for you to see my rejects!
Bryan Murahashi18-Apr-2006 04:04
Beautiful color and texture in this future blossom. Nicely shot.
purpod18-Apr-2006 03:35

Karen, thank you for the compliment, but my first thought when seeing this photo was how beautiful and delicate it is! There is a gentleness about it that gives it such a lovely ambiance. The curves are soft in a very pleasing way. I think this is exquisite!
Sheila18-Apr-2006 03:04
It looks so lovely to me.
Guest 18-Apr-2006 02:08
I wish I had some rejects like that. The texture of the petals is perfectly rendered, and the curves of the leaves are beautiful.

I'm confused. The lovely image and the caption don't match.

I like it because it conveys something about to happen, an anticipation of the opening. Very lovely.
carol j. phipps18-Apr-2006 01:44
This is a lovely composition given the angle of view and the crop. Well done.
Guest 18-Apr-2006 01:43
I like it a lot Karen
the colors are very nice and the lines all seem to flow well
there is not a straight line in this image
very soft and soothing image well done

I love the delicate look of this, Karen. Sometimes the effect you want is soft and romantic, like this.

Not bad at all, Karen.
