Toronto Waterfront has been in limbo since I arrived in Canada. Politics and burocracy have reigned on this huge piece of land for very long. Since the Gardiner Expressway has severed most of the city connections with the lake, this has not been a priority for many years. A rougue federal agency, the Toronto Port Authority, has been given the mandate to manage the port and the island airport, with horrible results so far. Toronto is not a viable commercial port, and the airport is just not in a position to be useful or viable other that to a very restricted set of people (politicians travelling to and from Ottawa and a small group of Bay street executive that travel by private planes). The TPA has even managed to screw up the only "navigation" initiative of the last decade by being completely unprepared for the arrrival of the new ferry from Rochester, NY.

But it's now clear to any politicians with ears that it can not be neglegted anymore! People have had enough! : the new mayor of Toronto had started his astromonical rise with a waterfront issue. Now the new prime minister seems to have taken noticed, but it's unclear to me if he is trying to really do anything or continuing with the tradition of political grandstanding.

Anyway I care about this issue, and this gallery will be the place where I collect my toughts and my images on the waterfront. My hope is that in the space of a few years, I'll be able to tell you a story with an happy ending and this will serve as a chronicle of the transformation..

Apologies for the mixmatch of things....For now it's just a container for my images on this theme.. and when I'll have enough material I'll organize it in a more story telling way.
