Shot for MTF Challenege "Optical Illusions"
I've alwasy been fascinated by this type of perception illusions. My interest started when I studied many years ago perception and colors. I was fascinated by Johannes Itten, The Art of Color , and all his work on subjective color perception. I still have an little booklet in Italian published by Kodak ( which I included in a shot for A touch of Color) which collects several papers on this subject, with many examples of this type of effects. For the same reasons I always loved Victor Vasarely's work .
When I saw this MTF challenege theme, this type of effect was the first association I made.
This image in particular was inspired by the work of Akiyoshi Kitaoka at the Ritsumeikan University . I recreated a pattern similar to one of his and then did several experiments before finding a position and context that worked the best.
