Note than since my pictures have been taken nearly all of what you see here has been dismantled and the rest fenced off in order to "protect" us civilians. a real shame if you ask me, if was definitely a great experience to be able to wander around what was left at the time. I believe all that is left now is the great chimney and a little bit of other stonework.

So wonderful to see these pics!!!!....I happened across this place while hiking around Sooke in 1991. It was a magical and amazing experience...and yes, crazy dangerous I guess but so worth the risk!!!! I was walking with my beautiful wolf/malamute companion and happened to meet a couple who also had two wolf cross's with them. Special memories. Thanks for posting.

I checked out the place today. I read somewhere there was a basement. Has anyone checked it out or know if there is indeed one? I didn't see an entrance to any basement and it's hard to imagine one being easily built into the side of the cliff.

this wasnt the convention center but the deetrails grand mansion, the tlc and crd robbed it from albert and his family i worked for him for over 25 years up there,

The ruins at the Sooke Potholes are truly magnificent...they speak of hubris, of Icarus reaching out to grasp the sun and crashing back down...when I went there some years ago, you could wander freely through the structure - a highly dangerous but most exciting adventure; the unrailed balconies thrusting out over the creekbed were especially boggling. I'm not surprised it's been fenced off - the place beckoned death by suicide or misadventure - but, some years ago, there was a great deal of equipment lying about so I took home a keepsake, a large rusted cog for some great unbuilt machine. This half-realized dream seemed both awesome and sinister.

I visited the Sooke Pot Holes, for the first time today. In doing so, I was struck to discover this massive feature, perhaps a castle structure, either not finished and left to deteriorate or demolished from what it use to be over a period of time. Either/or, I was quite taken by the structure presently in view and would have loved to have crossed through/over the fence line that surrounds it, to keep "us", the public out. I looked for a write up or a title of some sort on the structure, (nothing)...! It would have been pleasant to read up on any history concerning this structure in length or short detail...something to reveal a sense/area of...simple or complicated, meaningful or not. It's a structure I'm sure many who know not of it, until they see it, as I did, will have questions about. (...and back to the Sooke Pot Holes...)

Im tring to locate some information on the history of this resort myself. All that I know was it was built in 1981 and Albert Yuen ran into some financial difficulties and quit the project. It is really neat to go look at if you have the chance.

The house is actually a convention center that was being built by Albert Yuen, previous owner of the property.

I recentley moved to Sooke, and since discovered Sooke potholes and the house that you have pictures of. Amazing shots. Do you know the history of the place or where I could find out about it?
