Heron Pond - August 25, 2009

Other than the normal yard birds, I had a good look at what I think is a Carolina Wren.

Hi, Kevin, that sure is a Carolina Wren. We've had them year round in our back yard in Nashua for about 5 years now. They seem to come and go; that is, we will see and hear them daily, but then they will disappear for a few days or a couple of weeks. I know we have a pair, but I've not seen any evidence of mating.

Yep that's a young Carolina Wren. Rather ratty in post-juvenal molt. Were there adults singing in the vicinity this summer? One of the most prevalent birds in our Maryland yard. They often nest on shelves in garages and out-buildings.
