Hello all. My mother, along with her 2 brothers--John and Frank and one sister-Stella- were residents at IHM from 1930 to 1934. The stated reason was that her parents were indigent. Her name was Adeline Paluch. She never would talk much about it and after reading these posts I can see why. The only thing she ever did say was that sometimes they would sneak down to the kitchen at night and steal a piece of bread because they were hungary. For those looking for records, I received some from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent of the Felician Sisters and I'm sure they would forward toyou anything they had, although records are a bit sparse. For anyone who has pictures - and thank you Karl for posting yours-I would like to have copies if at all possible. My e-mail is cathcartflo@gmail.com. God Bless.

My brothers and I were here in 1954. The nuns were totally abusive. You could count on 2 fingers the nice ones. Sister Julia was very nice and ran the choir. I had Sr. Agnetta, I think for my group aged 10-12. She was psychotic, as were most. Sister Generose was the top nun and Sr Felicia was the teacher for 6th grade. My oldest brother is a very successful Doctor and lives Manhattan. I have a large business. I do have some happy memories there because of the kids, Mary Ann Jacobson, Marian Czornken?, Mary Jane D'Andrea, Sharon Hrib and Louise Mikos. I do remember that a little boy drowned on an outing in 1955 and he was layed out in the Chapel, I think that his name was Walter. I think the old priest was Fr Dombrowski? But, I am not sure. I remember them sending me to St Vincent De Paul summer camp for a week. I also remember one of my other brothers running away and getting caught. I was punished because he ran away. Go figure. I am hoping that many people come forward with happy endings to a very traumatic time in our young lives. The crazy nuns were still better than an abusive alcohalic father.
