My husband,Robert F.Cole was the official first firefighter in the city of Buffalo. He spent many years in this firehouse until the propane explosion which ended his career.

In the 1970s this also housed the Hose Tender which had a huge amount of supply hose, two deck guns and portable lighting. It responded on second alarms as well as to the Buffalo Airport when the BFD provided coverage with Engine 7.

A cousin of my mother's, Sibby DeMaria, was 1st battalian chief at this station for a number of years. I remember visiting him here in the late 1970s on family trips downtown.

This station was built in 1951 to house Engine 1, Engine 12, Ladder 2, Squad 1, and the 1st Battalion Chief (B-41). Engine 12 was disbanded on December 1, 1954. Squad 1 was disbanded in the 1970's. Squad Companies acted as first aid response vehicles but non-transporting. They were the forerunners of the Rescue Companies. The 1st Battalion Chief was disbanded as well. Now the quarters are home to Engine 1, Ladder 2, and B-43.
This station was also the 1st station to be built using a single story design. It's portection area includes all of the downtown business district.
