The Stephen M. Clement House

786 Delaware Ave. Buffalo

This house was built for Stephen M. Clement, who was the President of Buffalo's Marine Bank. It was built in 1913, however, before it was completed, Mr. Clement died, and his wife, Carolyn Tripp Clement lived in it from 1913 to 1941, when she gave the home to the American Red Cross, its continuing owner.

Mrs.Clement was known as a philanthropist, being particularly generous with the University of Buffalo. Clement Hall is named after her.

I worked for the American Red Cross. We knew it as the "Mansion" or the "Clement House". Thanks for the history lesson. There are several buildings that make up the Red Cross campus. One is the original carriage house for the mansion that had a revolving floor to turn a car around within the garage. The carriage house was connected to the mansion with a tunnel.
