I was born and raised in Buffalo and lived on both the East side and the West sides of the city at one time or another. Can't remember the actual street address numbers until I was about 7-8 yrs. old. First street I remember was Anderson Pl. and Connecticut St. on the West side and then through the 2nd World war years there was the the corner of Mulberry and East North St. where my Mother owned and operated a delicatessen store right across from Masten Park High School. After that it was High St. From there it was back to the West side at 154 Ashland Ave.-then Elmwood Ave.- and finally at 133 Ashland Ave.at which time it was 1959 and the Swan family packed it up and left Buffalo. I have never been back to my 'OLD' home town since, but am planning on a trip back down 'memory' lane in the very near future. Got to do it once before I 'cash'in. I'm hoping some of my old stomping grounds have survived as I have!!

I was raised in Buffalo and lived on Liddell St. This gallery and comments brought back many memories and emotions about friends and experiences . I recall the visits to Canada and the Falls. I rememeber the churches ; the dances and my Polish Heritage.I recall bringing my daughter to visit and showing her the Zoo, museums, Niagara Falls and the house in which I was raised. Thanks.

I spent a good portion of my life growing up on the west side - poor ol' welfare child I was. Used the U.S. Marines as a way to escape to a better(?) life. Looking back on the whole thing, I have to admit that there was a certain romantic character about the place - something that you really don't appreciate until you get a few years on ya I suppose. I seen the shot of the house on Ashland and almost fell out of my chair... it's been painted red now but I still remember it well - I used to deliver newspapers there to the sweetest ol' lady. She used to invite me in for a couple of cookies and to warm up when it was cold outside. What a blast from the past... Thank you.

ON THE CORNER OF ALLEN&WADSWORTH ED WINTERS BARBER SHOP ACROSS THE STREET HUTTONS BAR JAMESTOWN BAR ALSO MULLIGANS BAR JIMMY OATS BAR ALLENDALE THEATER BUCKINGHAM HOTEL DECO REST. ON THE CORNER OF ALLEN AND ELMWOOD WHITE HORSE REST. TOM INFANTINOS DRUGSTORE ON ALLEN AND COLLEGE I LIVED ON "COLLEGE ST". "MARINER ST". "ALLEN ST". PLUS "WADSWORTH". ALSO THERE WAS A ICE CREAM PALOR NAMED "GEORGES" and TONYS SHOE REPAIR. ALSO THERE WAS A NUWAY STORE ON ALLEN AND COLLEGE ACROSS THE STREET ALSO ANOTHER ICE CREAM STORE ON ALLEN AND COLLEGE. "KLIENS" MEAT MARKET WAS ALSO ON ALLEN.MY GRANDMOTHER LIVED ON PARK ST. THEY CAME FROM ENGLAND AND THIS IS WHERE LIVED IT WAS SUCH A GREAT PLACE TO GROW UP WITH ALL THE WONDERFUL HOMES I LEFT THERE IN 1951 BUT RETURN EVERY SO OFTEN JUST TO REMEMBER IT WISH IT HAD STAYED LIKE IT WAS. I ONLY LIVE 90 MILES AWAY SO I CAN GO BACK MISS IT STILL.

i grew up on keystone street on the east side i moved in 90 i cant belive in 15 years how much that neighborhood has changed for the worse i can still remenber being in that house

I grew up on McKinley PKWY. I love seeing the houses now. Everything has changed so much. I left in 77.

When my parents were first married they lived in one of the Tifft houses, secound floor
apartments. Mid to late 50's. My oldest sister was there when baby. Was just visiting
Erie & spent hours driving around looking at the wealth of architecture.I love this city.
In Buffalo Architecture: A Guide,they have the Tifft houses being built around 1870-1878
by William Tifft.

Wonderful pictures. Having grown up in Buffalo I continue to be amazed by the variety of styles of houses, many of which, as you point out, are slowly disappearing.
