Central Terminal

Buffalo's Central Terminal was built by the New York Central Railroad, with construction starting in 1926. It opened in 1929, and it's last passenger train left the terminal in 1979.

Over the next few decades, it was neglected, and deteriorated. A preservation group has secured the site, and sealed the building to the elements, and is working towards restoration.

What wonderful memories these pics bring back. I traveled as a kid many times from this terminal down to Grand Central Station. My Dad was the Open Top Inspector for NY Central and his Dad, Grandpa McNatty also worked on the NYC. My Mom's Dad, George Carpenter was the Head Steward for the dining cars for NYC. And Mother still has stories of Dad leaving for the War (WWII) from the terminal and of greeting him when he returned. Those wooden benches and the platforms have many stories to tell!

My father, Edward Stranc, worked for many years at the New York Central Terminal. I have wonderful memories of this terminal as we traveled on the railway many times. Great to see someone is keeping this historic building from being torn down. Curtiss St also has fond memories because my ancester owned a home there and visits were made there many times to visit relatives.

My grandma and grandpa lived on Sweet Ave. right around the corner from this station. What a memory,it brings me home, just seeing this. Thanks to ALL who contributed to this tribute to out cities past.

the first time I left Buffalo,I was 18,was on a train from the terminal going to spring trainig in Fla.what a thrill.Ticket was 18.95 one way

My miece sent me this site and I am so grateful. I grew up in Lancaster but used this station many many times going to Chicago and New York. It always seemed out train left in the gate the farthest away from the front door.What memories. Thank you for putting this site together for us to remember them. I really enjoyed it. (Crystal Beach also).
