(Chroicocephalus scopulinus), Once was known as the Mackerel Gull, is a native of New Zealand, being found throughout the country and the Chatham Islands and subantarctic islands. The Maori name of this species is tarapunga or kaiak.The Red-billed Gull is the commonest gull on the New Zealand coast. It is rarely found inland. It is commonly seen in coastal towns, garbage dumps.
