The following seven shots were taken from the Synagogue at Zippori. Zippori was an important village at the time of Jesus with Nazareth located six kilometers (4 miles) nearby. Excavations in Zippori, in the central Galilee region have uncovered a rich and diverse historical and architectural legacy that includes Assyrian, Hellenistic, Judean, Babylonian, Roman, Byzantine, Islamic, Crusader, Arabic and Ottoman influences. The site is especially rich in mosaics belonging to different periods. Major findings include the remains of a 6th century synagogue, evidence of an interesting fusion of Jewish and pagan beliefs.

The center of the floor has a mosaic depicting the zodiac wheel. Helios sits in the middle, in his sun chariot, and each zodiac is matched with a Jewish month. Along the sides of the mosaic are strips depicting Biblical scenes, such as the binding of Isaac, as well as traditional rituals, including a burnt sacrifice and the offering of fruits and grains.

These next six shots were taken from the floor of a Roman Villa on the highest hilltop in Zippori. It is noted for the "Mona Lisa of Galilee" seen in several of the pictures. My own observations is that it is the prettiest piece of tile work I have ever seen and that includes many castles in Europe. There are over 17 shades of tile in the face of the woman seen in this art work.

The road going down to the Nile House. There are wagon ruts on this stone road. There must have been lots of wagons to have made the very deep ruts.

In this image is depicted the Lighthouse at Alexandria at the mouth of the Nile. The lighthouse of Alexandria was a tower built in the 3rd century BC (between 285 and 247 BC) on the island of Pharos in Alexandria, Egypt to serve as that port's landmark, and later, its lighthouse. With a height variously estimated at between 115 and 150 m (380 and 490 ft) it was among the tallest man-made structures on Earth for many centuries, and was identified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World by Antipater of Sidon. It may have been the third tallest building after the two Great Pyramids (of Khufu and Khafra) for its entire life. Some scholars’ estimate the tower was the tallest building up to the 14th century
