We arrived on a Friday and this was the first overlook we stopped at. We could not see the bottom of the Canyon.

Neal with his donkey hat on, that hat is a real chick magnet. It's amazing how many people comment on it.

My hiking partner Neal plus the Donkey Hat who I have known for 15 years or so. We worked at Schwab together for a few years and stayed in touch.

Fellow hike, he is going up and we are going down. I was amused by the dusting of snow. He was warm enough to skip wearing a hat.

Me, toward the end of the hike. My camera bag attached in front. At this point I was pretty tried. Neal and I had been out on the trail for 4 hours.

The little outhouse down there in the center of the image is 1.5 miles down the trail and 1200 vertical feet down. It was our destination for the day. It is also the snow line. Below the outhouse the snow stopped and it was rain from there down. It was work coming out. We met several other people coming up the trail, including a 65 year old couple from Switzerland who began hiking from Phantom Ranch at daybreak, and someone who had dark hair and a light dusting of snow, who's picture is in the gallery.

The end of the trail for us. This was as far down as Neal and I went. It is the 1.5 mile rest stop. In the summer months you can get water from a tap. There is another shot in this gallery of the outhouse taken from the rim, some 1200 feet straight up.

The bookstore at daybreak in the Grand Canyon. Mary Jane Colter was the architect of this and several other notable buildings in the Grand Canyon National Park. Her style was unique in her choice of materials. Her architecture is studied and admired to this day.
