lawmakers consider banning mopeds from roadways
SOUTH CAROLINA —
A new bill will be introduced in South Carolina banning mopeds from public roadways.
Some lawmakers said they want to see the bill passed because mopeds are dangerous.
The representative introducing the bill said another problem is moped drivers are allowed to ride, even if they've lost their driver's license.
Some people Channel 9 spoke with say they want to get them off the roads.
“They need to be licensed. I think that's the problem. People who can't get a license will get them and drive them, but they're dangerous. They slow traffic and I don't like them too much,” said Steve Nyberg with Against Mopeds.
Last year, there were 632 moped accidents in South Carolina and 28 of those riders were killed.
