Allegedly, the story of Romeo & Juliette is based on real people who lived in Verona. The original story was written by Luigi Da Porto some time before the bard made it his own and speculation runs wild. Verona takes full advantage of the myth, and this small statue rests in the garden under the balcony where she might have (if ever) called to Romeo from her bedroom ("Anon, good nurse, anon"). It's said to be lucky to rub her right breast which is now gleamingly polished (but I think this custom started simply because boys will be boys :O)
